S. Beach in Miami

Postby bclam » Tue Jan 30, 2024 5:15 am

Friends - I am at a conference in Miami Feb 12-14th and would like to bust out one morning and kite somewhere local and easy to get to. I can bring my own gear or rent if easy. Any suggestions? I will be staying at the Foundainbleau.

Hey There,

Here's the link to the Spot Guide - https://se.kiteforum.com/kitesurf/720/region/Area+Miami - not sure why Toby's link didn't work (for me at least).

Certainly plan on bringing your own gear, you can rent at 76th Street, Crandon Park, or Matheson Hammock with an IKO Certification but you cannot leave/travel to other spots with the gear.

If you have time a GREAT spot for Foil/Surfboard is Virginia Key - Twin Tip as well if it's low tide the water is flat and clear. The launch isn't the easiest but if you're proficient you should have no problem.

The Fountainbleu is Mid to North MIami Beach - 86th Street and 76th Street are your two closest option. The latter is a concession/kite school while 86th is Public Beach. As mentioned before Crandon is on Key Biscayne and Matheson Hammock Park is further south. In real time Miami that can be 30 mins - 1.5 hrs if traffic gets bad. Assuming you won't have a vehicle I'd recommend to stay close.

Water is relatively warm this time of year - was just out last weekend and totally fine in a 2m shorty - if you're blood is a bit thinner maybe a 3/2 will be enough.
