Desert Island Twintip

Postby CaptainKook » Fri Feb 02, 2024 9:30 am

How do the following boards feel and perform compared to each other? Average conditions of mostly chop, waves, sometimes flat.

Standard Duotone Jamie, Reedin KevPro, Nash Monarch, standard North Atmos?

How do they perform or feel different?

Is there really much difference in newer versions of boards in terms of performance?

Jaime 2023 vs 2024
KevPro 2 vs 3
Etc

Is there such a thing as a desert island twin tip or do we actually need a collection - small twin tip for nuking days, large for lighter days, mako style for chop or waves, foil board, strapless directional, skim board!

Not much between them.

1. Ride: Monarch is probably the roughest ride. Atmos probably the best.
2. Grip: Atmos has the lowest grip. Monarch has the most through the centre, Jaime with the most on the tips.
3. Carve: ...these are big air boards. Who cares about carving? :P If you want to ride them in waves, Atmos has the least grip and easiest to slash.

They've changed the design subtly over the years.
1. '23 Atmos got lighter and more responsive.
2. '23 Jaime got the turned down tips, which increased grip substantially when loading the rear. This year the redesigned the bottom shape slightly, but haven't ridden it.
3. '24 KevPro got more responsive and slightly more grip.
4. Monarch...no idea, haven't ridden since like 2020.

A collection is best, yes. Depends on how many kites you want to own though. I have a small airstyle board (132x40), a small for my size big air board (139x42), and small light wind board (145x45). If I were to combine them into one, I would just get a larger big air board (142ishx43ish).

Absolutely despise how the Monk rides, from upwind ability to pop and edge hold/ grip. I would rather ride a Mako.

Jaime if you want to jump. Atmos if you want a looser board. Imperator if you're worried about your knees and not about durability.
