Shit is about to hit the fan

Postby hookedcook » Wed Feb 07, 2024 8:02 am

Duotone is marking their kites down and 2022 click bars are 50 % off. Think I'll stick with the normal brands. But if duotone is 0ffering any deal you know things are wrong, I'll buy another brand that offered more affordable kites for not some stupid amount of money

The clue?

Wasn’t that when they had to close the entire Fanatic brand due to being wildly over run with product the only way out was closure?

Welll hookedcook, a 2022 click bar at 50% off is not a surprise. I mean, they do not have even spare parts like the floaters so most people won't buy such an old model anymore. But if that is your clue, no idea what you are trying to say.

We have 2024. So who would buy a 3 year old bar (2022 gets released in 2021) for full price? Even when it gets released some dealer sell for -30% already…

It’s a good deal, go for it. Guess the bar didn’t change that much the last years.

Well it's clear the market has taken a turn (at least in UK and Europe) towards wing and foil equipment and there is much less demand for kites. Buying new gear is too expensive for a long time kiter for me and I can see a lot of models/brands disappearing in this coming recession.

Old news on the bar. I bought one from Kiteboarding.com this late summer for that same discount. Speaking of which they have a bunch of DT boards and kites marked way down.

I'm sure this is more covid over supply that just about every manufacturer is going through.

(I'll note Core didn't have a bunch of kites marked down.... at least that I haven't found.)

Duotone, Naish, Cab, amongst others all drank the koolade of Covid sales numbers ramped up production and ended up with huge over stock across all their products.

The huge fire sales across those brands are the result

If some go out of business as a result, it’s on them and their greed

As for slingshot, it’s a dying brand after chronic poor management , especially in Europe.

Stuff is just too expensive for what it is. Even with new materials the average kitesurfer isn’t doing anything different to back in 2008 when Best Waroo was about. Still see a few of them being used 16 years later. How many of these latest super light kites do you think we still be used in that time yet they want nearly (or more in some cases) £2000 for a single kite.

Some great deals around but in general I think people can’t justify new kit. No demand, brands cut back or go bust. I think some of the price hikes are just greed, in no way am I convinced that the kites are higher quality and worth the extra.
