I'm planning to go to the u.s. for a couple of months to kite surf. Where are the hot spots? Was thinking san francisco. Any comments?

depends on what time of the year you go. I live on the East coast, New Jersey has great kiting (bay + ocean) from April thru November (water + air temp start getting warm). Cape Hatteras, North Carolina is another fantastic area for all levels of kiting. I dont know to much about the West coast..have fun!! jane

West coast is best spring and summer. Spring frontal winds and clearing winds associated with fronts. Summer is thermal. Many spots in bay area in summer. Coastal CA in spring.

May to September are the best months.
Take a look at http://www.sfkitesurfing.com/ for best spots in the SF Bay Area.
Tons of variety between flat freshwater with no wetsuit needed, to wave riding in the ocean or swell-riding under the Golden Gate bridge (but bring your 4/3 wetsuit).
Winds are consistent almost every day, starting early afternoon till sunset.
There are also thermal winds 1 hr from SF that blow morning and afternoon.
Cheers,
Vangelis

June to September are the windy warmer months for Hood River, OR in the Gorge. Nearly every day is kiteable within a 1/2 hour drive along with great mountain bikeing, hiking, kayaking etc. Also the entire Oregon coast can be great and empty during the same months, but chilly.
