I've searched all the forums and read alot of the user reviews. I'm still undecided on what to get. My Toro 12 has good low end, but is too much when it gets up to 18-20+knots with gusts.... (I weigh 67kgs) Could anyone please give me some suggestions for a good high wind kite to add to the 12? (will be going with a used kite) I've thought about the Rhino01 9.3, but it sounds like it has the same wind range/pull as the Toro12.
True? Would a Toro 8 or 10 be better? ideas?
Thanks everyone.
Happy holidays,

I've just changed my toro 12 for a skoop 8.5, and i discovered what windrange means... But if you want a second kite for stronger winds, stick to the toro! So i'd suggest you a toro 8 or maybe a Rhino1 7.5 coz the 9.3 is really too close to Toro 12 (but not the same windrange...). And i think that you'll get a better deal on rhino1 than toro.

I'm the same weight as you and was riding the Toro's for a good season.

I found that the best combination was the Toro 14 & 10. I needed a kite for stronger winds so I got a Toro 8 as well.

Fun wind range with my WT137 was :

Toro 14 : 13-18 knots
Toro 10 : 18-23 knots
Toro 8 : 20-27 knots

Comments:
- the 14 was the most fun kite. Fast enough for high and floaty jumps.
- at my weight, I found the 10&8 a bit slow for high jumps.
- I could handle the 8 upto 28/30k but not fun. Not very good depower but good low end. Too much overlap with the 10 and also you can not use it in very high winds. I would prefer a 7 with more depower.

I now use a MachII 12 (high AR, very good wind range 15-25k). I still have the Toro 8 until the Dream 7 becomes available.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mike, thanks Tripman.
Tripman, are you able to use your Skoop in winds above 18 knots, comfortably? If so, the range sounds great. I might be riding an Airblast, pretty much the same as a Skoop, in the Very near future. Sounds like you've made a wise descision. I will have to as well...
Ride safe & have a blast!

unless youve got mucho wonga or ride the pro tour a 4sq.m difference between kites is ideal..... toro 8,12 & 16 metres will cover you from 8-35 mph wind speeds, one board-a north jaime pro 142cm twin tip,one bar-a north scepter with 27m line length and you'll have a kitesurf package to die for.

The range given was what applied for me at 65kg with a WT137 and what I consider to be FUN riding. If you use a larger board or if you like riding really overpowered then perhaps you get a bigger range. I do feel however that for us lightweights the Norths are a bit tiring to ride especially in powered up situations. They have good low end though.

I'm 85kgs on a 140AX, the 16m Toro gets me cruzing in 10knts and 18 is a nice top end, you can holds it in more but walking up the beach becomes more difficult. The 10.5m Skoop(pro ject) had the same bottom end but 20 knts was still rideable, Just a lot less low down grunt.

Thanks macca,
I guess one could say toro is a grunty kite best for light steady wind or wacked heavy air, or any conditions that are not too variable. is that fair?
could I also say hy ar kites are more versital yet limited to mid range wind for best use? whadya think?
