I am considering a press. I would make the frame so it would be good for snowboards and kiteboards.

The only reason a snowboard press system is faster as you suggest is they use a silicone heat blanket right in the press. Nothing stopping you doing that with a vacuum setup either.

With medium speed resins a vacuum setup is fast enough and lends itself to changing all variables easily. Whereas a press you need to makes some VERY solid mold surface which keeps most small builders away.

Making molds for the board would be a lot of work. They would need to be very strong and dimensionally exact. As mentioned above, this is fine for a manufacturer but a hassle for a low volume builder.

Good luck if you decide to go ahead. I'll be interested to hear how it turns out.

i'm not using one myself, but am considering building one. the majority of the reading i've done is found on http://www.grafsnowboards.com. check out 'press' on the left hand side. a couple options to go by and some guidelines on how to get there.
