Yes, but make sure to use it on both top & bottom and of the same thikness. Otherwise, the area moment of you composite will shift from the center and generate excessive shear, cuasing failure at the rails.

If you are not getting what aeberl said, it means roughly this:
With formica only on base, there will be too much difference in stiffness between top and bottom. This will make the skins peel off the core at the edges, or if the core is weak, the core may crack and your board fall apart.
So, like he said, probably better to make the top and bottom sheets similar! Then it should work.

Yeah what he said,

Also use the pebble finish formica, costs more but is faster in the water...

smooth causes suction, got-a break up the suction....

Guys i have a board made by a shaper in Italy, the bottom was of formica, top was made by a kind of fiber glass and epoxy i believe, is was amazing how that board rides, super fast and really resistant, i use to ride it in the beginning of the hurricanes or the end in Varadero Cuba and i have to say it was stronger than what it looked, my only problem was that was in the base of the screw where the the footstraps goes, it was made by a soft material and the screw wear it off quick making lose, at the end i had to pass the screw side to side, i know , i know not to pretty but it worked.

reagards,
Ch
