Hi TomW-san,
I thought about glassing in fcs fusion boxes, but need a stronger hold. We have a lot of reefs and shallow areas, so fins are always getting scrapped or banged. I've started experimenting with building my own ply-fins & will be building a set of quads with standard kitefin two bolt mounting. Also, since my paulownia boards have pretty much no volume, they sit really low in the water. This lowness adds a lot of rail bite, which reduces the need for a taller fin. Hence another reason to build my own (shorter) fins. Home-growns will be 3"~3.5" fronts & 3.5"~4.3" rears.
More work, but I'm optimistic it will pay off : )

You could also look at mutant TT fins. OR Mako, Axis twin wave and some others I cant think of right now use small surf style fins that can easily be replaced. It will be a pain in the arse to have to reglass your fins each time you smash them on rocks.
