I've had a hard time finding veneer that is 450mm wide and paper backed. There's a company in Holland that makes bamboo veneers, Moso, but they won't send it to me in Sweden if I don't order a whole pallet and no reseller around me.
So I've sourced 1,5mm Abachi veneer and 0,5 mm red cedar from a source in Sweden, bought a pretty big quantity for about 200 euros 5-6 years back and been using it in different projects. The red cedar is so fragile and not flat so I'm not using it. The Abachi is really really strong. Both veneers are 100- 160mm wide so it takes time to fit and piece together.
I'd like to have source for eider bamboo in Europe.
I thought that veneers would work well in big concave / rocker builds (mako style). They were very fragile (but admittedly very thin). I stumble across some suppliers in Italy that sold online. In the end I went for a vertical lam layup with 2x4mm poplar ply (heaven at 2350g core for 155x48).
I sure wish there was paulownia ply available in Europe. Would make woodie building some much lighter and easier
Zebra is not flat either, but not fragile as well. But man, 600 wide makes a lot easier build!
If anyone going to Bali, I can give you my veneers contact there Trust me, it's a Paradise on Earth
Paulownia wood I don't think they make a veneer, would be like balsa, quite soft. The thinnest P. wood I can get is 4x200 mm strips. They are used for hollow surfboards as is.
