Hey Guys,
An idea that I am not really sure if it has been posted here, but has anyone ever thought of us doing our own, "open source" bar? I imagine it as something everyone could add their tips on, along with sourcing out accessible materials.

Is there a reason nobody goes titanium? I know the weight issue but has lot of benefits as well. it's Grade 2 which is maintenance free and strong!
Take a look at this quick model I made. Reduced the weight to 150 gr! I'm gonna run stress calculations and will share the results. its 55 cm Long

I think it's less that $20 for a 60 cm bar and 20mm diameter. Grade 2

Hi all,
I'm late to the party but this is a great thread. I see lots of discussions/worry about compromising strength at the center hole. Would love to hear updates on how various methods have worked out.
A few questions:
1) Has anyone tried using a short length of solid carbon fiber rod for reinforcing the center? You can get it up to 18mm which might fit inside an 18 x 22mm tube. Any reasons why that might not work well?
2) Any preference between the twill (spiral) or straight weave pattern for carbon fiber tube? Is one likely to hold up better w/ the hole cut in it?
3) Any updates on using the carbon fiber mountain bike bar?

Another approach in bar building. Made 3 of them using airex, CF and epoxy. Each one weighs 95-98g. Cant brake it over my knee. Have not tried with a kite yet but pretty shure it will do the job. Will be used with peaks4 on hydrofoil.
