In the process of gathering supplies and planning for a proper carbon build. Done one vaccum process board which turned out so so - good learning experience. Two questions for you experienced vaccum process builders out there:

1. Whats the general concensus about pump pressure using closed cell pvc type core (65-70) (Guess higher than the crap eps polystyrene I used, which buckled over 6 psi on a test I did beforehand)
2. Are you using perforated film aswell as peelply or just peelply?

Thanks, Geir

Use peelply, perf film and absorber. Don't over do the pressure.

Problem with eps is that it's generally much lighter and most importantly it is not closed cell. There is air between the cells and it get sucked out, collapsing the foam. A way around it is to laminate a thin layer of glass on first by hand. That seals it up.

Builders eps here in Sweden is rated s80, S100, S200, S300. The S80 under 20kg/m3. The S300 is 35kg/m3. I found the s300 is good. But still have to have higher density layer on deck

Yep, learned that the hard way. Got the pressure right at the end - was a veneer composite EPS sandwich, closed rails with carbon/fiberglass tape. Newbie mistake to take it out riding with pinholes. Got that sorted but then got leaks on the inserts :(

Doing my homework for the next try - full carbon + fiberglass 4oz on top of CF.

I'm thinking of using this for core:
https://www.easycomposites.co.uk/#!/cor ... -25mm.html

Two singlefin 10,5" tracks embeded in this block 300mm x 150mm x 28mm thicnkess:
https://www.easycomposites.co.uk/#!/pat ... block.html

Thinking of glueing the PVC on a rockertable 25mm + 3mm = 28mm to get to the 28mm thickness of PU trackblock.

28mm thickness means the masttracks/finboxes will be touching carbon top and bottom.

Already have the carbon and fiberglass:

The CFs:

375gr. CF 5HS-6k (deckpad area):
https://www.easycomposites.co.uk/#!/fab ... 250mm.html

200gr. CF twill (full deck+railwrap):
https://www.easycomposites.co.uk/#!/fab ... 3k-1m.html

Thinking top to core 4oz FG + 200gr CF full/railwrap + 375gr. 5HS-6k deckpad size (strength) + PVC easycell75 core / PU 100
Same in reverse for the bottom.

Going to be a bigger Pocket board roughly T38 dimentions. At the moment riding Moses T22 pocket with 633 and 550 frontwings so the track will be nice. Just using minimal SS snowboard inserts, two front + one backfoot. Already have my feet position figured out riding strapless on the T22 + Onda setup.

What do you guys think?

Thanks, Geir

I think you dont need 375 g cf and pu 100g. My Last 2 boards have 200 g cf skin over 75 g foam with little patches over foil mast. No dings (I'm 90kg). And maybe 25 mm core is far enough. Glue between 25 mm and 3 mm foam Will add weight.

And feet position will be slightly different as the board is bigger
