Hej Downunder,

This is inspiring me. Im going to get a table saw. Haven't looked at buying one in 20 years. Cheap now.
My plan is to make 3mm skins, 10mm rails , and foam core. Solid wood around foil plate.
you think i need uni d carbon for reinforcement?

I'm thinking through how to make thicker rails and taper them before bonding everything together.

I reckon there are a thousand ways to make over complicated or over built paulownia boards (I've made one of each). I recon that you are just as well off with a simple 80g cloth on wood. Maybe a bit of extra in front of the plate. It will come out at around 2.5kg or less. But would not be as much fun to build I guess.

Bad news for the Paulownia built+80-100g/sqm is that it will be outperformed of a 150g/sqm 0°carbon/foam sandwich with a much higher lenghtwise stiffness of factor 2.5 at least! This is for 18mm core thickness both.

Good news is that it´s not all about stiffness (-> impact resistance for example). But I would rethink this critically for a more heavy rider with one of those surf foils underneath the board.

Twintip with 0/90°carbon layup is a total different story as you can´t compare the core thickness to foilboards.

Edit: Certainly 150g/sqm 0° is only for calculation, of course some +/-45° fibre for e.g. is mandatory too

There are many many TT construction foil boards out there. Duotone one I used the other day was just horrible, it sinks, its bulky, did not like it at all. We really do not need big and bulky boards.

45 is not needed as well, I think No forces in that direction.

I could use 4mm foam and only wood skins outside, however, 4mm foam is $180 a sheet.

PaulWood is cheap. This build is about $30 or less.

This is me not taking it too seriously. 20 minutes with a jigsaw and a hand plane. 4 T-nuts from the hardware store and I have a 20 dollar board. Didn’t even seal it.

It really is more Planet friendly in my books than using a foam.

I would only drill heaps of inserts positions and after glassing the top would slap epoxy with a peel ply to get that fantastic grip.

All together, a couple of hours work.

If u knew carbon and foam prices we pay, u would think twice...I guess its cheap in the US, just like everything. Gas, power, whatever...

guys, did anyone ever think about putting lanes for straps?
obviously more useful in tables with very little volume.
the anchors used for surfboards are 3 cm deep, and they do not fit into the pawlonia board which is only 18mm ...
in your opinion, how are those tracks from the north made? Material?
