I'm following this topic for a while already. I started with my first board. For the moment I only found XPS foam to shape the board. I'm considering to order Airex for the outer layer because of the lamination problems with XPS.

Will it work if I glue the airex with gorilla glue onto the XPS and afterwards fiberglass it?

Since you have to use epoxy anyway, use epoxy to glue the airex/xps together.
Aim for a thin even layer, apply with a notched squeegee/spreader and use a little microfiber or phenolic microballoon filler. Runny consistency.
PU glue can be used but it often wants to expand unevenly and can give bubbles/delaminations. So epoxy is easier, and you have to buy a bunch of it anyway.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

For 4cm+ thickness use XPS without any PVC foam /airex/. Just reinforce foilmount - use common sense - plywood etc... 2cm and less thickness dont even bother with XPS - it will fail.

Hey board builders.
Made snowboards when I was younger and thought I’d try a foil board for fun. I made it pretty much exactly same shape/rocker as groove skate out of %100 scrap materials XPS foam and plywood. Board right now weighs exactly 3.00lbs... not sure if that’s an ok weight. Made my own ss inserts and placed them about 1cm forward from the furthest back location on the groove skate. This will be my first foilboard with slingshot nf2 and h2 wings. Some questions for you.

What layup of class or carbon would you used?
Is there a secret to having Xps not delaminate?
Will my foil mount position work ok?

Thanks for your help guys. Open to any criticism, want to learn.

Round the rails on the bottom. So called reverse rails.
Then laminate with 3x 165g(6oz) glass each side with rail wrap. Perhaps a deck patch too. If you have some carbon, you can put a strip down center each side, but looks unnecessary as you have thick stringer.

Thanks Tom. Yeah I added the think stinger and box just for more stiffness, don’t know if that was necessary. For XPS foam is there a particular way to apply the glass or can all 3 6oz sheets be put on at once? I’ve read I’d delaminates a bit easier than eps. Thanks again
