Shorten carbon mast ?

Hi ,
I’m considering cutting down my gong carbon mast 105 , and fit a plate 165/90 instead of the Tuttle fin + adaptor today . I do have some DIY experience with carbon fiber and epoxy: two pocket boards and one large wing , and aim for better control and reduced weight. Still have not done something so demanding . Do see here that the common approach is to keep fin end and then fit a box .
What would be the advantage to this , provided the increased weight ?
Thank you

What do you seek in more control that your current foil lacks? I highly doubt you will gain more control on a shorter mast. The contrary is true I think, longer mast gives you more room for errors.

Could be a trim, surface finish or a strap/foil position issue that makes your foil twitchy.

With the plate adaptor currently , I ride about 115 cm above the water . beach start with on shore conditions is tough and also learning tacks , I think would be easier with more standard size of 90-95 cm. My thoughts are that less mass height - smaller lever and you can afford less precise step. For example I tried recently 65 cm mast and change from toe to heel side was much easier .
