For my next board I'm going to embed a JBL Go2 into the center.
This little gem is IPX7 rated and has pretty decent sound. I've done some tests in the bath with it and it really does seem to be waterproof.
And even if it isn't, it's only USD30!
Anyway. Had to make the core a bit thicker to accommodate the Go2 and am planning on printing a custom grille to screw it down on the four inserts.
I'll post more pics as the build progresses.

Only audio, why not full home theater entertainment system? I humbly suggest to go for smart tv option, then you can post real time updates about your project while sailing.

I applaud your engineering. But the last think I want is music when I'm in the ocean.

I'll be sure to keep my distance so you're not subjected to the sound of Billie Jean in passing. You may need to avert your eyes however if you don't want to see my rendition of the moon walk

I've not found any local retailers selling a waterproof speaker MP3 player with micro SD card slot for the music.
The look on the face of a local windsurf shop assistant's face when I asked them if their new waterproof speaker had a micro SD card slot was priceless

I won't mind if its Chris Cornells version of Billie Jean.

Yeah, nothing more awesome than getting out to the beach, away from the city, and getting to share people's appalling taste in music for hours at annoying volumes. Almost as awesome as the people who walk around malls with Bluetooth speakers.
Though this project might be handy for clearing my head of the songs that get stuck in there, when I'm relaxed and zoning out but then the monkey brain insists on bringing up some nonsense or other...
