No,
All my rails are premade PU.
The process is well defined and explained on the site.
Works for me
Mind you, for 90kg rider I would use 14mm wood core in the middle.

As an FYI for anyone interested, my current slingshot shred weighs in at 3.9kg with no bindings, no fins etc just the board. With damp bindings etc it is just over 7kg. Obviously fully wet I'm sure it would weigh a whole lot more.

Timber glued lightly.
I'll thickness with a thicknesser to 11mm.
Then I'll make a core blank with ply so I can use a router copy bit.
Liquid PU on its way.
I'll route a profile on the outside of the rails when they set.
Flex calculations look pretty good.
More pics to follow. Thanks for the advice so far

Hi,
Remember, the PU is not poured into the wood. The fast one, like 5secs pot life, can be poured.
Or, completely seal routed channel with epoxy first. Than pour.

I'm going to use an epoxy with a tint. I've found a west systems product that should work well.

Well, I tried liquid PU. It was bad. Luckily I tested on some plywood dummy boards. It was bubbly, and generally was quite difficult to work with. Downunder, I've read all your posts about pressurising a tank and curing etc. A lot of info, so thank you. I'm going to do a few trials with epoxy, and get a feel for the flex/springback I get. The damp weather here in Perth hasn't helped with progress.....

Finally got around to taking a pic. Poured epoxy in the routed channel. The channel is 10mm deep, only leaving 1mm of wood.
More pics to follow as I progress.

Hi, the timber came from Melbourne. It was originally 14mm rough. I thicknessed it, then glued the 4 planks.
Thank you for the kind offer for the inserts. I've already got some. But I'm sure I will need more in the future. Do you sell paulownia? I'd be interested in buying more for some other boards I'm going to make.
My next board will be 14mm in the centre, with a profiled tip/tail.
Cheers
