foil attached to twintip

Postby jyka » Sun Jul 14, 2019 8:36 am

I'm about to buy gong foil, and I have an old twintip board (cabrinha xcaliber). Would it be a bad idea to drill holes and attach foil to it? Haven't seen any twintip boards with foils :D
Is it strong and stiff enough or would it need some extra layers of carbon or glass fiber? Or some extra plate to distribute foil load to wider area

We do it all the time at our spot, me and a couple of fellas. I've always picked a stiff old twintip. Here is an old build from 2017:

Some twin tips are pretty soft. As mentioned, I would look for wood core stiff boards. I think the Xcalibur is wood core and generally one of their stiffer freestyle/wakestyle boards. Drill and seal with epoxy when you put the stainless T nuts in.

Always a good idea to check if the board will float your foil first.

If it flexes - don’t use it. If the twintip is like Liquid Force Proof which has zero flex - it should work
For a foil pretty much any solid, stuff board would work as long as it doesn’t drown with the foil
