Finally, the lightest option. Cut 3cm diameter ABS rod to board thickness length and drill 6mm or 8mm hole depending on your foil mount bolts. Cut out 3cm holes in your blank and use resin and glass bubbles to fix in. Then laminate board with extra cloth patches over the area. When cured drill though laminate where your holes are. You can counter sink the holes on the deck side and use countersunk head bolts to give nice flush finish on the deck.

wuauuuu ... excellent advice ... I guess you have to scratch the ABS well in order to adhere the resin. the us box fin would be ideal, but my table is too thin..it is only 18 mm and it seems to me that the steps are about 3 cm thick. make abs inserts, having pawlonia as bread, I might not even make them; since the wood already has a good resistance.

Yeah, I usually cut a few notches in the plug to help. Also pass a lighter flame lightly over the ABS, as I once read it helps with adhesion...not sure about the science behind that though.

These are snowboard inserts that you could use. Set them in some ABS sheet and use resin and glass bubbles mix to glue into the blank. Then laminate over the top with several layers of additional cloth. When cures drill through laminate to expose hole and thread. The photos show then being used for foot hook mounts on one of my builds.
where to find inserts like yours? what price do they have?

I'm in the uk, and have not found any suppliers there, so had to get them from EU. I tried ordering some last month but no reply so dont know if they're still trading.

Also bought from this place in US years ago when they didnt charge the ridiculously high price they do now for shipping.

304 steel?

That is for snowboarding, fresh water. Not marine type.

I would stay clear from that.

For the above ABS advice the better solution might be to use Epoxy rod which anyone can make and cheap as dirt.

Just use a tube, vax it and pour Epoxy in...

Down under, after what you said about 304 I panicked and went to remove my straps and check my home builds. This one is two and a half years old. Should I worry?

I use snowboard inserts too and never had any rust on many boards for myself and others. I do mostly ride in fresh water but spend 2 months in hatteras so they see a good dose of salt.
