Disableing quick releases for gliding / big big air

Postby Kozzie » Wed Jan 01, 2020 11:24 pm

Hay all so been working on my 8 line closed cell foil kite and nearly have my line length finally decided apon. Its been a bit of a process.

Essentially i need short enough lines to stay in the air compression zone of ridges/cliffs but still long enough to actually land out on the water and kitesurf.

Once i have my line length firmly locked in ill be having to pay a glider technician to help me design a line plan and remove the mixer system entirely.

Anyways just hoping i could see some photos from the snowkiters out there or anyone else who has disabled theyre quick releases ive seen in person from a few french snow kiters using simple thin rock climbing slings as backups but im interested to see what else is out there.

Or bars simply with no qr

Cheers

:o What is 8 line closed cell foil kite? If you know how to design a wing you should be able to design the bridle for it. Why do you have to get rid of mixer?

For a glider technician it can be challenging/risky task to design some kind of fixed AoA bridle to your kite because making it work well and safely is more than just lines, it is quite a lot about the wing itself. And if there is some kind of kite lines/steering bar involved situation is quite different to PG's.

Disabling QR is IMO suspicious if same kite is used for kite surfing.

It would be good to know a bit more detailed information of your project.

Anyway good luck, don't kill yourself :)

some kind paraglider kite interbreed - for stunt. Anyway snowkiters doesnt disable they QRs. They wear secondary climbing harness as backup.

Yeah i have climbing harness leashed to above qr so can disconnect easy but i will fall onto it if regular kite harness fails also added a front mount reserve container to climbing harness.

I will but havent yet connected the a b c's and break lines to pg risers via kitelines this should allow me to big ear/stabilo

Im working on flyingcloclo s little rotateing junction swivel majiggy doohicky so i can spin under it tho ive noticed he preferred to fly backwards i believe due to orientation... So maybe its just to assist in water in which case... Dare i say... Fireball? Hahaha just kidding i dont actually want to die but maybe some sort of ball joint that i can slide back and fourth will allow me to lock i to faceing leading edge/faceing trailing edge mode

Besides disabeling QR's one should think of reserve parachutes..

Yep just like that. Flyingcloclo actuallyreleasedhis designs for free yearsago but that was before we had low ar foil kites and i feel alot more can be done on a capa/hyperlink/soul

I got to have a look at one of 2 of these in my country... Convoluted is an understatement. Im hoping to just have a simple fixed lines all directly connected no pullys and maybe a little rotateing block/riser spreader bar

Kiting on water on large kite is proveing a bit shit on such short lines currently 15s may reduce to 12... Toying with the idea of using a landboard instead... Could be fun riding up a 200m cliff then hucking off it for abit anyways tomorrow the winds straight on hopefully i get a decent glide in and can decalre the project yay or nay if the 15m lines is short enuff for the compression zone then its time to break out the scissors and chop that mixer off and turn it into a glider

You want to convert a kitesurtfing KITE into a paraglider, that's what i understood by looking at some Flyingcloclo Youtube page.
i would recommend to check "tubeless kite forum" if you can manage in french. if not (not perfect) use google translate.
or better, a paragliding forum.

Aeros Kites sells a reinforced bar built for gliding:

One local kiter ordered cloclo's parakite-set and attached to his speed3-21m. Harness was paraglider training harness which leaves legs free.

Here's my video of him gliding. Quickly looking the vid there is mixer in place so maybe the kit was just risers and harness attach point and paraglider steering with wrist loops.
