Seeking design and build feedback: pocket foil build (paulownia)

Hi all,
I'm working out the design for a new pocket foilboard build using paulownia (https://clearwoodpaddleboards.com/why-b ... ownia-wood). I know there was an extensive thread on building w/ paulownia but I wasn't able to find any examples of laying it up the way I am thinking about. Most people seem to be strip-planking on foam cores but I am planning to cut the 1" thick boards into the longitudinal profile and laminate them together like a butcher block (see drawing). I would cut the centers out to make it as light as possible. Anyone tried this?

As for the shape, would love feedback as this is my first build. I couldn't find a lot of discussion on bottom shaping for foilboards (other than exhaustive debates on rocker). It seems like a lot of makers are going with chined rails and single or double concave in the nose to flat in the tail. I more or less took a bunch of pictures of boards I liked and traced them into vectors in Adobe Illustrator to create this mashup of shapes.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Thanks! I'll consider widening the tail. More tail volume better for light wind starts?

I dont think is relevant to talk about LW start with 106 cm board but im not sure if my feet even fit to such narrow tail

Hmmm... It's about 12" wide at the center of the mast base. Seems like plenty but I'll have to pay attention to how much further back my foot goes.

- Shaping/geometry of the bottom of 42” board is pretty much irrelevant
- I’d make it at least 11” narrow where you place feet and not much wider elsewhere
- I wouldn’t bother with emptying the core, just narrow it from 17” to 13”
- my board is layered. Layers make it nicely stiff
- consider couple of alternative attachment points for the mast 1.5” apart

Thanks! I based the width on typical length/width ratios I have seen in production boards. I'll have to pay more attention to how much real estate my feet are using on my next session...

My current paulownia board is 36x16” and I noticed the extra width is fairly useless - my feet stand over 10.5-12” wide areas while the middle of the board where I don’t stand is wide which doesn’t make much sense and my next board will be narrower.

just an idea,
so as not to weaken the front of the board too much by hollowing it out, depending on the grain of the wood.
with 1 inch wide slats, make a type of H beam with each slat.
where you want to lose weight but keep more rigidity.
It is easier to put reinforcements in foam.

That looks fantastic. I too think you should put more width in the tail. I'd go for more carbon reinforcement around foil mount and give yourself maybe 75mm of adjustment of the foil mount.
