Thanks again, you are making good progress. Four point bridle is quite nice already :thumb: The more I play with the program more I like it. :thumb:

Some questions/remarks:

How LE thickness is changed in the middle of the kite?

Strut LE and TE size adjustments should be next to each other, now there is LE curve adjustments in between them which is a bit annoying.

Tow point separation adjustment, how it is done or is it possible? I think it should be.

What is "bridle tow point distance f...." parameter? I don't see the effect of it. (correction: I see now but it works somehow strange, or it is very slow.) (correction2: I get it now but I don't get the meaning of value range: -0.4 seem to be about right, crazy values are possible to choose)

To scroll model parameters up and down is a bit annoying, but it is acceptable. It would be better if more parameters could be seen simultaneously and also they could be a bit more organized or grouped by their function.

Where to get dxf airfoils for LEI kite? Or how to do basic morphing to them?

To have basic info written next to model is a good idea.

Panel/segment width seem to be constant, perhaps it should be optional to have it proportional to chord to some degree.

Anyway :thumb:

Re: Beta test - Karoro online kite design software

Hi All,

Spent a chunk of the weekend working on this, latest version is on this link:

https://app.shapediver.com/m/200426-kit ... scaling-18

A whole stack of updates and bug fixes:
Image 20200426002.png
DXF output now has some basic bladders included.
Image 20200426004.png
3D of the kite has a watermark of the Karoro logo
Image 20200426005.png
Bridle Design shows lengths on the HUD plus which cascade is which.
Image 20200426006.png
I've added LE size scaling and removed profile uploading for the moment - it will be back. There is now the ability to turn on/off a preview of all the kite seam profiles.
Image 20200426007.png
Finally I've added a kite curve preview which should help explain what those settings do and what effect they have on the LE front curve.

Thats it for now - still not done any documentation - I'll get to it some time....

Cheers

DK

Hi All,

Some progress in the last couple of weeks.

Firstly - the project now has its own URL:

www.karorocad.online

As for the upgrades/new features:

You can now select thru 3 profile presets OR upload your own profile in DXF format:
Image 20200510007.png
To get a reference DXF file see the download button at the bottom of the parameters list:
Image 20200510008.png
There are now 5 different styles of bridle available:
Image 20200510009.png
Finally - there is the ability to save and reload designs using these two buttons:
Image 20200510010.png
PLEASE NOTE: Save/Load function is in testing, I cannot guarantee that the format will not change in the future and make saved files un-readable, I will try to avoid this tho.

Still no documentation or demo video - its all on the list.

I've also been asked to create a 'Wing-Thing' version (kite version does not support flat/reverse wing styles) - I'll advise if/when that is ready for testing.

Cheers

DK

:) Thank you, very good and necessary improvements :thumb: I did three designs and I liked how it worked out. To be able to save and open designs is of course important.

I still missed a bit cell width adjustment (center-wingtip) but it is ok as it is, I assume it is constant. This is not as important for LEI as it is for foil kites.

Also how tow point separation defines itself is a bit unclear to me, or is it fixed to a bridle type? Different bridle types should be enough for most if not all possible kites, very good again :thumb:

LE diameter could have numerical values, not just % of chord length. I couldn't find what chord length is in the center either. HUD display could show projected AR value of design.

Hi All,

New update online today:
Image 20200621001.png
Have added basic LE and TE reinforcement panels with width adjustment.

Improved the LE build maths which solved a minor issue that was bugging me.

Bladder design code was improved to make it more reliable.

All controls have been moved/grouped to hopefully a more understandable order.

I think that is it - let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers

Hi Decay,
thanks a lot for this application, i was still using the old surfplan(with all his known problems), that i have to say that i like it a little bit more but probably simply because i know it a little bit better, on the other side Karorocad seems that give a super nice DXF with all the details. Actually I'm building a wing 4.6m and soon i will build a 3m so i hope you will have a wing version of Karorocad for it, or you will be able to tweack it to allow V Le shape, tecnically even surfplan was not supporting it just mooving the cursors, but typing negative numbers it allow you to do it.
I'm wrong or i remember you at the beginning of 2000 on boardbuilding yahoo group? In detail, you were using a thick mylar or policarbonate sheet during vacuum to have a super nice smooth surface?

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your interest in KaroroCAD

A demo video is on my list of tasks, my day job is getting in the way of getting it done. You'll know on here as soon as it's up.

Cheers

Hi.

Is the option to download the dxf file sent by email disabled?I can't send these files to my email on the website, says it sends the email, but the email doesn't arrive.

I was trying to make a simple tutorial of karoro commands for my understanding if you are interested i can generate a version for you to look at.

I generated a kitewave 9 in karoro ,could someone take a look and see if there is any error? because this is my first designed kite.

atached files.

would it be possible make kite different sizes in karoro and change only the size or when changing the size I have to change all the parameters again?

tks

Eric
