Anyone ever build their own harness?

I'm contemplating building a seat harness. Anyone ever build their own? Either a seat or waits harness, I just want to see what you've made.

Yeah I did, back in the 90s!
Used it mainly on land (buggies & landboards). Even the spreader bar and ‘hook’ was home made!
Harness was made from old car seatbelts, from a scrap yard. I think I based it on a climbing harness
With a proper spreader bar it would probably be ok on a foil but no padding so not so great for powered up TT riding.

Back in the 80s I combined a chest harness and modified climbing harness for windsurfing. (Heavy duty needles+sailors palm for hand sowing etc). Not built one since but I would recommend checking out climbing and access harnesses for inspiration if you have not already done so. I still use a climbing harness for sunny day landboarding and it feels light and reasonably comfortable with just a carabineer as opposed to a spreader. If the wind picks up I combine it with a waist harness.

Sailing Trapeze harnesses would also be worth a look at as they need to be comfortable holding a lot of power ......

I dare say there is nothing new to you here but good luck in your quest for personal perfection.

Maybe start by finding a nice nurse to make a plaster cast, but you might need to wait until they are not so busy?

The seat harness above looks pretty straightforward. Especially if I used an existing spreader bar.

I've always thought you could make your own hardshell by laying glass over a soft shell harness, around the back and up to the buckles.
