DIY depower rope?

Do you use some coating on the line? I use this one: https://www.premiumropes.com/d-power but it doesn't seem to last as long as the original Slingshot ones

Thanks for the replies guys. So looking at replacement videos, the slingshot depower line has one end with some fabric sown onto it, that makes threading easier (like the suggestion with tape above). But what exactly needs to be spliced? Is it the part that sits in the cleat near the handle? Or do I have to splice both ends to lock the rope?

There is a boat shop that sells 5mm dyneema with 2300kg breaking strength, looks like it would work fine. I measured the rope and it's 5mm in diameter

Photo is rope for below bar depower. No splice required. Probably held at CL by screws.

Video, in the other thread, is spliced arrangement for above bar depower.

PS handle in photo is probably stopper knot under webbing and maybe a grub screw in the ball.

I think we may be talking at cross purposes. The photo above does not appear to have any splices and I would be surprised if an OEM supply a replacement part that needs splicing. Either way I am sure you will sort out what is required.

fyi, the ss below the bar depower (guardian) has a spliced loop, and the screw within the quickrelease threads into the loop.

The above the bar I would recommend just buying the SS replacement. Everything is so much easier to do with it. I just replaced one on one of my older bars. The below the bar is not to replace. You don't need to splice the rope end just throw a knot in the end that is supposed to be looped. It's how I had modified an old bar to an above the bar trim before they came out with the new system.

The biggest thing you have to make sure you get right is your rope length.

Yeah I think getting the length right is not a problem it's just a matter of cloning the depower rope I already have

First I did a locking splice to lock the oh-shit handle, but the spliced part became too thick to slide through the depower cleat. So I removed the tail, and just put a simple knot in front of the splice, and placed a stopper ball in front. Then it just runs through the like the original. In the end I did just like the original rope, the end just goes through the rope once and it becomes too thick to slide through. There is no knot or sowing there. The length is perfect. Now I just need to sow the magnet of the old handle onto the new handle. Think it should work fine. I just bought some 5mm 12 strand dyneema from a boat shop.
