DIY depower rope?

Hi,
I have a slingshot compstick, and was wondering is there anything preventing me from making my own depower rope? They cost like 30 euro to replace each and appears to just be a piece of rope really

Don't be a casual. Learn the Brummell locking splice and your good to go.

The rope they use on all kite bars is called Amsteel it's made by Samson rope you can get it in marine supply store. If you learn to splice you can create the exact same rope that you would buy. I have done it like 25 times on so many bars. Check YouTube for splicing videos.

i think its 3/16 diameter. someone can correct me .
also make sure you splices isnt too thick so that the safety can work.

Cool, after 7 months the depower rope is showing wear and I need to change it both on mine and my wifes compstick, so it seems better to learn splicing technique and making them vs paying 120 euros a year on a piece of rope.

I just need to figure out how they have attached the handle to the depower rope.

Does anybody know if there is a smaller rope inside the depower rope? Or just buy the amsteel rope and it will be identical?

Also is amsteel a brand name for dyneema? I've found 5mm sk75 dyneema ropes I wonder if it's the same as amsteel

Slingshot needs a quite particular thickness of line otherwise the 55cm ling thicker spliced part won't fit into the chickenloop opening. The original is already a really tight fit and a struggle to get in place, anything thicker and it won't fit at all so it needs a bit of research and fiddling to find the right line.

Too thin and the sliding stopper won't work.

For many of those types of spots where you have to thread the rope through something tight, you can make a wrap of very thin packing tape around the last few cm of rope that sort of goes beyond the end of the rope so it tapers into an end that is just the twirled up tape. That thin tail can be threaded through most tight spots and you can pull the end of the rope through.

Learning to splice, the bowline, simple fig 8 knot and a couple little tips like that are all I've ever needed over that past many years of kiting.
