The brummel on the left is the one in the video. The one on the right would have a much nicer bury, but as nixmatters points out it is impossible to make without rebrading the line.
What am I missing? Bury the tails and its done...

You bury the tails backwards, i.e. the lines are interlocking and bent 180°. What's holding the loop together is a 'knot', not a splice = half the strength in the best case.

Ah I see.

You don't want to splice a loop the regular way...?

I still don't get why you want to make a loop for pigtails either :D

It's dead easy to make a pigtail with a loop with a knot in the middle at one end, and a loop at the other, using brummel splices at both ends.

The bury from both ends can go beside each other down the middle so it only needs to be half the usual length, if that matters to you.

It's one of the few cases where a brummel splice makes sense. You have the locking of the brummel so you don't need to be so rigorous about the length of the bury or sewing the splice. Pigtail splices don't need to be super strong because the knot or the loop is locked in a lark's head. As long as it can't slip it's not going to come undone.

You don't need a loop at the knot end, but it's much neater looking if you do splice a loop. You avoid having a loose end of rope flapping around.

Of course, if you're in a hurry you can simply fold a length of line in half and tie a figure-8 knot. That will work just fine.
