I've started from scratch, complete self build. Automotive filler paint is great too. And some of the automotive gloss paints have a great skin tightening effect that will close holes if you can get the paint in in the first place. I'm so stoked finally having mine at wax & polish stage after a crazy amount of unskilled filling and painting work.
