relative position mast back footstrap

Postby dericcio2 » Tue Jan 05, 2021 8:35 pm

dear builders I am planning a board without chinhook and I want to keep it to minimum mast/foot binding points.
normally I use with going pro surf m the foot over the mast or slightly ahead.if in future if i switch to an higher AR wing how behind should be the rear foot compared to the mast?

Been riding Moses masts/wings for last 3 years. With kite wings my back foot big toe is right behind the rear mast plate hole. With surf wings the rear mast plate hole is behind my back foot big toe.

Been riding Moses masts/wings for last 3 years. With kite wings my back foot big toe is right behind the rear mast plate hole. With surf wings the rear mast plate hole is behind my back foot big toe.
I went through following
Kite 545(558)/548/590/695/637/800 with 328(330)/325/330/420/425 stabilizers
Surf 633/683s/679 with 483/450 stabilizers (450 shimmed up to decrease front foot pressure)

Ended up with these for now

Thanks for tip.
I expected a position of rear foot by using the surf wing not so much behind.
I sketched the different configurations up: distance middle point of footstrap - Middle point of mast around -8cm (your surfwing position)
around -18cm High AR
The behaviour of my surf wing requires back foot more forward: big toe slightly in front of center of mast ( distance between 0 and +5 cm) .

Well to suit both extreme positions +5 (my surf wing) - 18cm (High AR) it means fixing points for the plate for a length of around 35cm, pretty long for a pocket board of 110cm, I wonder if it makes sense race wing on pocket board without volume

I used my previous measurement for the board I designed and I still could do better but I also wanted to accommodate 90x140 setup used in original Ghost Whisper (they messed up 90x165 making it 90x160 but had more mast plate holes which I could use)

And I love any wings on pocket board - the race wings let me ride fast, larger wings cover lightwind - it’s all good. I’m a type of a guy who hates touching water with the board so I dive and fly up

I love 800 wing because it’s racy fast (stable and without having to push it like crazy) and it can do lightwind too being 840 sq.cm wing
