2nd Pocket Board (HF) Layup?

Postby giovanidondera » Wed Jan 27, 2021 11:46 am

Hi Guys,

Been reading allot here and appreciate all of your inputs, learned allot. I've got a question about a construction layup and I would love to get your input.

Core: EPS(30KG), shape would be 90x48x3cm, egg-ish kinda style, not much rocker.

For glassing I'm planning to use 2x8oz glass for top and bottom with an additional patch for the mast area
Bottom part would also get a veneer of 0.5mm just for decor.

Mounting: the plan is to use a 300x170x1mm G10 epoxy plate to distribute the load (I got couple of those laying around) and bigHeads M8 nuts within wood blocks
so it would be a plate glued to 4 blocks inserted from the bottom part of the blank.

Any comments? already made something similar so it could be quite fast. The problem that it won't really touch the top skin, it would just be embedded, should I add an additional G10 plate from the top, I want to go light as possible with what I already have.

Thank you so much for helping,
Gio

I'll add another question.
If i plan to use 2x8oz glass, G10 plate to distribute the load and hard wood for the inserts, can I get away without a stringer?
its a very small board (90cm) and I'm a very big guy :)

EPS, and no connection between top and bottom skin.....

Sounds to me like the foil mount is going to break out.

After shaping your blank, Better to insert a 80kg foam block in area of mast, 140mmx200 mm. All the way through. Then drill 25mm holes in hd foam, fill with epoxy. Then use a router to mill down 3mm recesses over epoxy plugs on deck about 40mm dia. Then laminate carbon unid ( or glass if you don't have carbon) strips 140mm wide , staggered lengths. I use 3x 250g uniD carbon. Both sides. On deck you are putting laminate into those recesses. Then glass both sides. 30kg foam, i would have 2x 8 oz on bottom, 3x 8 oz top. When whole thing is laminated, drill out 10mm holes for the bigheads. Glue them in from deck. Then add small glass patches over the bighead flanges to fill recesses and grind off flat. Then do finish coats. Now you have bigheads with laminate under the flanges, epoxy plug, laminate on bottom. Only way those bigheads are coming out is if entire board gets destroyed.
