I have also used a stainless eye bolt. One issue was that the eye is a bit big but this is OK if you are connecting it to a big enough ring. I did not grind the threads off but covered them with epoxy paste to fill the threads then I sanded smooth. Worked well and I think this might be easier than grinding the threads.
Better bet is a “swage eye terminal” (saves dealing with the threads)

2.5mm is plenty strong enough.
Totally agree - these make really nice pins - but a little bit harder to source the smaller ones.

I have dicked around with many variants described here, but I should say that I think that infexion's seat-belt release is the way to go as you only need one for all your bars.

Thanks however I feel the Infexion may be more bulky than what I'm looking for, and I'd also prefer to not REQUIRE a ring on the Bar side.

The SK shapes looks like exactly what I want, just not sure if I need the large or small, and how to connect the system to my harness but I'm sure it'll be simple.

I have used this pin release with a SS cotter pin and 1/2 inch pvc plumbing tube from hardware store for 50+ sessions without issue. Basically weightless and very inexpensive. If the pin starts to look worn or bent you can easily replace it.

I recently got the Infexion release which is more robust but heavier.

Very creative! I wouldn’t want to be 30 feet high with that system though LOL. Might be fine for light duty foil riding though

That looks similar to my setup. But for mine I use a tube of aluminum. And instead of a pin, I use a piece of steel bent to make a parallel L. It is modeled after a 2006 quick release from RRD (where the plastic disintegrated).
(update): I wrap the aluminum in hockey tape for grip (and less shine for sharks).

Here’s my first attempt. Happy with it but not satisfied. Found an old leash and borrowed some parts

I ended up contacting Stan at sk shapes and he custom made me a release exactly what I’m looking for

Here’s some pics of the end result.

Nothing DIY here but well worth the price

That looks like a much more robust and reliable solution!
I messed around using pins and parell beads. In the end I went with Infexion & have loved it - I can now use the whole bar throw. Which you will get with yours as well.

I have a small Antal ring inside the 2 fender washers to keep it running free on the rope - probably overkill.

But this is a pull release, isn’t it?
Your slider rope will go through the ring I guess...

I prefer Infexion system from Evan! 👍🏽
