WingHopper - free wing design/CAD web app

Postby ZachMoves » Fri Apr 09, 2021 1:47 am

I'd like to introduce https://www.winghopper.com/ to the KiteForum community! WingHopper is a parametric wing design web app that allows anyone to create a beautiful, efficient, and accurate wing model.

Initially I developed WingHopper for my naval architecture and hydrofoil design consulting, using it as the basis of the hydrofoil design work I undertake. I've made into a web app that allows for anyone to design a beautiful wing that can be exported to 3DM, STL, OBJ, or STEP file formats. I've also incorporated an XML export that can be imported by XFLR5, a great open-source panel code CFD program. The goal of all of this is to provide a useful and powerful design tool to the sailing + foiling communities in order to gain knowledge and develop technology to move our industry forward.

I've just launched the website and there are a lot of upgrades + improvements to make over the next few months. I'd appreciate any feedback on the site, and definitely want to hear from you if you find it useful!

The site and tool is completely free to use, just make a free account with your email and start designing. I hope you guys find this useful! Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions.

Thanks HugoMC! Let me know you like it. I'm working on a few updates including 3D printing + wing construction services.

Thanks guys! You can export 3DM, STL, OBJ, or STEP file formats right now, in addition to an XML for XFLR5.

Let me know how you like it, I'm always looking for feedback and have a lot of improvements planned.

Wow! Very good! Possible to design almost any kind of a wing one can imagine. Much better than similar ones.

Great site, very userfriendly!

Any chance of adding a option to select the airfoil and then forming the rest of the wing based on that airfoil selection?

Just my personal opinion... Mixing winghopper and Prfctcaos excel formulas the result should be perfect..

Absolutely! All you need to do to access the foil import + export features is create a free account. I've enjoyed your thread and think WingHopper is a perfect compliment to your software!

from https://www.winghopper.com/faq:

Import foil section .dat files by changing their file extension from .dat to .txt. WingHopper wings are modelled with 3 sections per wing, for the root, midspan, and tip locations. This allows for sections to be optimized for the local flow patterns.

Would love to look at ways to combine forces + collaborate if you're interested :D
