Splice - Taper resurrecting after buried

The taper keeps coming back out after a while. What am I doing wrong?

First thing to say is, I don’t know. The following is just my best guess. When a line comes under tension it can create high levels of internal pressure, just look at the water shoot out of a wet mooring rope when it comes under tension. That is the force coming into play. Don’t liquify your taper by turning it into fluff. Recommendations:

1. Do the taper by removing one of the 12 strands at a time and retain as much of the weave integrity as possible.

2. Make sure you insert the wire further down the line than the length of the bury plus at least 25% to ensure all the fibres are aligned and therefore less likely to be pushed out.

When splicing you need to start e.g. 15cm down the line if you have a 10cm taper...then when done you pull the line and the taper will move inside the line if you do it to short the taper will still stay out the line a bit an may kreep back...
