Foil box became loose

Postby matanshapira » Sun Aug 22, 2021 8:19 am

A Takuma board was fixed by a professional repair shop for a loose foil box. Soon after it was repaired it became loose again without hitting anything.
1. how much such fix should cost?
2. what can I ask the repair shop to do so it won't happen again? is it an issue of too small high density foam? or not attaching to the stinger? see post-fix photo

If all they did was inject glue/filler and add reinforcement to the bottom the repair is bogus.
If a box is loose it needs to be removed, foam repaired and box reinstalled or replaced, tied solidly to both the deck and the bottom skin. Hi density foam, epoxy, cloth and possibly mini stringers need to be used.
If they did not do a full-thickness of board repair, ask them to redo and credit what they charged so far towards the new work.
On the other hand if they did a solid repair and this happened, what did you do to the board?!

Hi,

I guess Takuma just glued the tracks into the styrofoam. No spars, no Airex foam.

What ever the repair guys did, was not what should have been done.

The lever forces mast to tracks are tremendous. Could be bad engineering from the beginning.

But you are not alone with this. On FB there are some ugly videos of a very popular foil
race board. The mast is shaking like the tail of a lamb. The inside of the board is like
described above.

tks

Kosta
