Makes sense. I guess you know how it‘s usually done with seperated e-chains for X and Y-axis (Energiekette)? You could get them on ebay or from webshops, dold-mechatronik.de for example

Or you‘re doing it the more masochistic way with 3d printing in PLA, saves some money. :D

I would recommend not to use a too tiny chain-size; you might get problems with the sag because of your big strokes.
