Crack on carbon mast

Postby drone » Sat Jul 16, 2022 10:57 am

Hi!
Any suggestion or experience with such crack?
At this point for me its cosmetic, but who knows..
No flex or any movement at that point.

Yeh looks bad. Not sure it's repairable. Will see how its will evolve after next sessions.

I would check the warranty coverage first.
Then, if of no use, it should be easily fixed by a experienced composite user.
For sure you will probably lose a little performance wise, as it will add some thickness locally (but uniform).
But it will be bombproof, no risk to break it during future sessions.
How do I know? I did the same kind of job, but on a UL propeller blade, that was almost broken in half. It still holds solid 10 years later.

Go aluminum, for base plate, cut off at crack, find a base that fits then epoxy and push carbon it in around base , spray base plate with PAM if you want it releasable, drill or tap for screws to hold base on. easy....

Looks like the cracking is near the fuselage. Check warranty. I would not use a foil as it may crack after hitting a fish and you will be out two wings and a fuselage, while right now it's just a bad mast.

It’s at the fuselage end..

It’s also one of the new model slingshot phantasms so the warranty should be valid which it won’t be if he follows your advice

Slingshot has been very good about warranty issues with people I know. My friends have gotten great service - including full replacements several times. One guy ran over a rock with his foil and it got sheared off. He figured it was totally his own fault, but they replaced it in full. I'd say call them or send a picture in warrant or not.
