Wingcraft [V1] Replacement Gore-Tex vent screw?

Postby galewarning » Sat Nov 12, 2022 9:17 pm

Anybody know of a replacement Gore-Tex vent screw to replace the stock vent screw on Slingshot Wingcraft V1 boards? I can add a Gore-tex vent in the nose of the board, but would be nice to just replace the stock vent screw.
Yeah, I'm lazy, often forgetful and frequently travel to/from hot/cold high-elevation climates to sea level.
Thanks in advance,
-Barry

If this helps, the stock vent screw is:

M12 x 1.5 with a 16mm hex head.

I just ordered one of these 'Goretex-like' vents from Greenlightsurfsupply...
Will update when it arrives.

Just found this M12 LTW-series vent from Amphenol. Should be available from electronic parts distributors like Newark, DigiKey, etc. Need to differentiate the three [?} flow ratings, two colors and four different o-ring colors. Talk about choices. Also need to see if there's enough room around the deck recess and the flats on the vent to install it.

Edit: There are two color choices [gray/black], high and low flow versions and either hydrophobic or oleophobic membrane models. So, a total of eight choices for the M12 X 1.5 plastic model.

Anybody know how long these Gore-Tex vents last? And how do you know when they've gone bad so you have to replace them? Just unscrew them and visually inspect?

These types of vents have been used for years in windsurf, surf and SUP boards [the V2 Wingcraft now uses one]. I recall the first generation vents for windsurf boards were problematic [they failed and leaked]. In the past, I installed [drill and epoxy] similar vents in both a 11' RRD and 10'3" Exocet SUP, which didn't fail in the 2-3 years I owned them.
I am a bit leery of the Gore 'like' knockoff coming from Greenlight though. I'll definitely test it to make sure it doesn't leak. I'm also going to buy a couple of the vents that Amphenol sells with a real Gore-Tex brand membrane. I couldn't find a spec on the burst strength of the membrane, but the waterproof rating is at 2m of water, which is about 3psi.
I would also be interested in experience from others...
