Is it Possible? Solo boat launch Guerilla?

Postby Guest » Sat Mar 06, 2004 12:46 am

Possible scenario to solo boat launch a guerilla kite:

Carefully prewrap lines on bar to minimize possibilty of tangles
On boat, unwrap lines and let lines drift away down wind.
Fill kite with air and release on its back into water
Kite drifts downwind until lines become tensioned and kite
launches, albeit in the power zone.

Other Scenario:
prewrap lines on bar so that kite is depowered (parallel to wind)
when you unwrap the lines as the kite drifts down wind.

the last few unwraps of the lines allows kite to face wind and become powered- critical stage, kite launches.

Any opinions welcome, especially experienced

Go for it. Excersize caution. I launched a Takoon Skoop II 17 from the back of a boat in the British Virgin Islands with off shore winds at about 6 gust to 22 (over the hills). It was an absolute hit. Tour boats with naked chicks were converging on me to observe. I had a chase dinghy to help me recover after a couple of hours in the cove adjacent to the Caves. The pirate ship was nearby.

I pulled the release, swam to the dinghy, and spent several hours untangling lines - Well worth it!!!
