The lovely CJ (right) and Andrea (left).

CJ isn't sporting an oversized funky ring but in fact a brace for her broken finger. It was fractured about one month ago and she is still going through rehab sad to say. She was out a bit overpowered on a 9 m kite in 25 mph conditions, was drifting away from the support boat down in the Keys and decided to pull the plug by dropping her bar. The kite was fairly powered up when she tried to depower to the kite leash when her wrist leash cuff violently pulled over her hand. In the sudden speed of such things, her finger was badly fractured in the process.

Most kiteboarding companies at one time or another have used wrist leashes. I have owned plenty myself. You need to be careful to firmly (not too tight), attach them, free of sand, etc. that might impair function. Still a few years ago, I moved away from them with a passion for a variety of reasons going to a spreader bar attachment. The "corkscrew of death" comes to mind (when the wrist leash line hangs up on the far side of your bar making the lines uneven, etc.). Loss of movement and other factors were involved as well. Retrofitting wrist leashes to spreader bar leashes isn't that hard to do, something to think about.

Don't you hate losing contacts? Neil is capably giving a hand, uh shoulder ... well you know.
