Do i need a new surfboard?

Postby Dengan » Wed Dec 12, 2018 10:09 pm

The answer to this is of course very rarely “no”!! But do hear me out.

Im at a reasonable level riding a north wam 5’ 10” board which has served me well since i started on the directional. Now im begginning to think i might make more progress with a lighter more manouverable board. Thr main thing i thinkbit might help with is for small jumps and simple tricks. Maybe also make better for slashing waves.

I ride strapless in medium sized messy waves (s coast uk), and only about once a month, so only want to pay out for a new board if it will really help.

Any views? Cheers 8) 8)

A few used surfboards in various shapes can easily be had for the price of one new kitesurfboard, they’re usually light, its always fun to hop on a different shape from time to time and it need not be expensive with the multitudes of used surfboards collecting dust, just waiting for someone like you to come along and hammer them

How old is the Wam?
if its over 3 years old then yes get a new one if newer then its a great board stick with it.
The new Pro Whip is a great board for small south coast waves and jumping. Just dont go too small, if over 80kg get the 5'4.

The best way to progress will be to get out there more than once a month as your muscle memory is not getting enough time to learn stuff.
Only going once a month, by the time you are back to where you were the last session you are starting to get tired so will never learn much.
Enjoy and if you want some coaching down in Cornwall give me a shout
cheers

Thanks for the tips guys.
@green turtle- ive even got a couple of boards myself which never get used. Arent worth much so not precious about thrashing them.
@lee- i know! Once a month is cruel, need to fet closer to the sea. My wam is an old one from 2012, will try out some newer ones or maybe the whip, like the look of it and how i think it will behave. We were just looking at cornwall recently, havent been there in forever, will gife you a call for sure.
Ife seen your materials and think i could definitely benefit from some coaching.
Cheers
D

The answer is yes, unless of course you are already riding the ultimate kitesurf board, the Wave Bandit Performer 4-10.

What's your weight? I'm 75 kg (165 lbs) and the Performer 4-10 is simply amazing to ride. More info here http://www.nwkite.com/forums/t-42781.html

This is ofcourse the main issue, not the board!
City job+kids =not enough time on the water
Any tips on convincing the missus to move out of the big smoke would be great too! :argue:
