When to go for a tube vs. for a foil kite for Airstyle

With a windspeed of 15-18knots and 75 kg‘s my EVO 12 just doesnt deliver the performance I would like to have for airstyle tricks and slides. Now I ask myself which kite might be the best for the future.

-Why do some Airstyler go for kites like the Rebel or OZone edge and some for a Flysurfer. How do they differ in their performance.

-What are the Pros & cons of both (if there are any of course)

-Under which criterion should someone choose a Tube kite( Rebel, OZone edge,...) or a Flysurfer, regarding his/her style of riding.

Yes, test if you can and see what you prefer.
Also depends if you have space on your local beach or if it dangerous.
Foil needs a bit more space IMO.

For sure a 12 is too small. Get minimum 14, but rather a 16...those tricks need power to make them look nice and to keep pushing further.

I've different claim. Foil kite does not need beach at all. Enter water, unroll the kite and launch. And land kite to water, roll and exit.

About visual power level you can see top airstyle riders Toby (18m2 Rebel or Dyno) vs Lukash (15m2 Sonic) - I think Lukash riding looks IMO better powered because foil kite takes him higher, more power on exit from darkslide etc. Sure I was not there at Egypt airstyle event - so I cannot tell what clips are from same session both are on water etc. So I am solely talking about impression from single video. But I think it is up to Toby to tell his view because he was there.

This is the airstyle video I mean:

That board toss is very impressive Toby!

My opinion, everything is harder on a foil kite. Mainly because of the delay to input, makes some mistakes impossible to recover from. Feel is worse too, knowing kite position and what it is doing all harder. Foil kite has more performance, you'll go higher and hang longer.

Foil kites do not need more space. Certain side launch situations are hard to impossible. But then every side launch situation you could find downwind launch situations or drift launch or on the water launch or on the water setup and launch, which foil kites are all good to great at.

Someone show me someone pump up a tube kite while swimming in deep water, unwind lines and launch it? lol. Foil kites have a versatility explore by few. Not bringing and relying on pump, having such great performance, range, durability, small pack size, no bladders to fix, it all has so many benefits especially when you are in the middle of no where. I have kited in places no tube kiter would even imagine to. There was no where to pump the kite up and crazy things that shred tube kites.

I wonder where you see more power on Slide exits from Lukash.
That’s exactly the point why I prefer tubes...since at then end when you need power the foil turns with less power while the tube turns creating still power.

It looks better on the new foils from FS, but not on older FS kites.

I had my eyes on a 15sqm rebel. NKB/Duotone don't produce bigger ones since 2015 unfortunately.

Try it if you can and see if you like the feel and it’s power
