So I have been doing a few dead man variations lately, I did one in gusty high winds the other day and while I threw the trick I went into a rotation while upside down it was a bit out of control but I got away with it.
Has anyone got this type of trick dialled? If so how do you initiate the rotation to do this consistently?

that's great!
Sure.
The process of going upside down can lead into a tiny twist. To be able to land it you need to finalize the rotation.
But you can also lift of with initializing the rotation by throwing your head and upper body forward/sidewards (not too much or you over rotate). Basically you throw yourself under your bar...which leads you to go upside down and rotate forward.
This way you spin a bit more and at then end you finalize the rotation.
