What kite for Jesus walk?

Postby BlameTheWind » Mon Aug 01, 2022 2:17 pm

I have FS Soul 8, 10, 12, 15, have done jesus walk few times, but im far from being "locked" with this trick.
Lukas Vogeltanz was correcting my technique, yes, totally possible that some details are not yet perfect but im thinking maybe to buy other kite for that.
So i was thinking to buy Sonic 13m, this kite does give more airtime and perfomance in general. Yes i heared, its more complicated kite, but maybe i should take the challange...
What you guys recommend what is good/best kites for good quality JW?
Also i would believe my weight 100kg plays role, so second question, as a hevier guy, what should be size of that kite?
Please give me good help, JW has been alot of trouble

flysurfer soul is the best kite for jesus walk in my humble opinion it has a lot of float is very easy to fly. I have noticed when taking videos of myself attempting jesus walks that the #1 reason I fail is that I quit flying the kite. If I watch myself doing a dark slide or a hand drag I notice that the entire time I'm flying the kite I control where it goes, make small corrections, in other words I'm actively flying the kite. But as soon as I try a jesus walk, there's so much going on, you have to get the board off you have to watch where you are going so you don't crash into someone, you need to make sure you are the right distance above the water, and in the midst of all of this I will usually just lock in with the kite and hold it position and quit flying it.

Watch this video of my friend Greidy Diaz doing a jesus walk.

Notice that he is actively making corrections to his kite the entire time he does the trick.

Anyway that's my biggest problem, not sure if its yours. Just the plain old forgetting to fly the kite. Use the 15 at your weight. More float. You don't want a kite that is difficult to fly, since already there is so much going on you want a kite that is easy to fly.

edt: tell him to not cut landing! because then you can see the problem with the foils doing that trick, and similar.

Why did he cut? because he is missing power. From when I tried foils hey loop with too little power. There a LE is better, it loops with more power...and that is exactly what you need to land the trick clean. While looping it still need to hang.

Whenever you can, try a friend's kite and see what difference it will be.

I have 95 kg currently, but also had 100 before. Always ride an 18. But can do Jesus Walks in 15 knots average.

I did the edit not him. Greidy is using a tube kite. I didn't want to bore you with 10 seconds of the landing. Sorry the footage is lost so I can't go back and find it. In that video Greidy is on I think an eleveight RS 14m in 14 knots but he only weighs 70kg. Even Toby can't tell the difference between a foil kite and tube kite if he doesn't see the kite in the air.

landing is ALWAYS important.

But I saw many videos from riders on foils, and exactly this. You need power for the landing. If a foil turns powerful, it is ok, but if it turns on a point, it won't.

Some day you might want to demo the soul 2 and Hyperlink V. Or not. You seem happy using the same exact same year size and model of kite every year that would drive me crazy.

For me it is important to have the same gear over and over, since what I am doing is always different...if you keep switching between kites, and sizes, you always need to get used to it to feel safe trying new tricks.

@Blamethewind: no chance to test new kites anywhere near you?

Toby, if you mean Sonic, complicated, but working on it. Or you mean some big LEI?

So Toby, you would say big LEI would be best for quality Jesus?
