Got some more time in with the T1 this weekend and switched back and forth to my Axis foil setup to compare.

I really find it interesting how much less drag the T1 has over my Axis foil. It's really noticeable.

Still experimenting with the mast position and Triton shims to get ~ equal foot pressure and the board kind of leveled out.

The T1 mast and baseplate wont fit [165mm x 90mm or 140mm x 90mm holes].
I must admit this is a bit of a peeve of mine. I’m sure you had your reasons for the design, but there are a lot of awesome boards out there with through bolts designed for 140m or 165mm x 90mm (e.g. my Kanaha Shapes board). At the least offering an additional baseplate with more traditional spacing would be helpful.

I had my Moses/Sabfoil T22 with standard holes 165/90 mm easily fit with 2 more holes to accommodate my mast.

did any of you try the Triton T1 monowing with the new Naish Hover Microchip pocketboard and can confirm if it works correctly? No sinking?
Thank you so much

Look back a page or two for plenty of posts/pics. And nothing short of an anchor is going to sink the T1.

Not quite sure what you mean. Did you put new holes/ inserts in the board? My KS board has two 165mm x 90mm inserts offset in such a way that one of the spacing ends up 140mm x 90mm. I’m not sure how much of a trick it would be to have someone put in two new inserts that would not rip out but it is definitely not choice A in getting it to work with my KS board.

Yes it floats on it's side very well. Whole package is quite easy to get up on strapless in smooth conditions, however it can be a bit more hit and miss in gusty wind and moving water, as you need to get the power right and come straight up onto the foil. This is still easy for me if 1 loop of the kite is the right amount on power, it just gets challenging if it's too strong to loop (ie timid dive) or requires 2+ loops. I would say that the chip is really a tiny pocket board, so for me the T1 with it's flat "go where it's pointed" characteristics is easier to get out of the water and foiling than a traditional foil which will want to see-saw as it comes up. Once you're up on a small pocket board like the triton board or the chip, it really is the ultimate :thumb:

Refreshing to read something like this. Very nice.

“the spacing on the baseplate was a screwup. We were trying to optimize for weight re a smaller bolt hole pattern but it’s proved more hassle than it’s worth for many riders so our apologies”

Two good questions thx!

Snip...

Regarding mast position I ride it with the mast at the back of the track / rear of the board. I find this creates the most space on the board deck as with the T1 your back foot is going to be over the leading edge of the mast and not a mm further back for optimal lift from the wing and pitch control. Some guys however swear they can only ride the T1 with the mast way forward. I guess each to their own but I want as much deck space as I can get on our 87cm pocket board. :). Maybe Peter Frank or another engineer on this forum can explain mast placement relative to the centre of lift of the wing. I definitely find the centre of lift on the T1 to be further forward than a traditional foil.

Look forward to your first impression review and be sure to take some pics or video!

Thx for the questions and support.

Rudy, Co-Founder, Triton Foils

Hi, just saw you asked - my thoughts, without having ridden the T1:

A stabless (normal) foil is very unstable, and the COL (centre of lift) is quite a lot further rear, so you have to stand aft or move the mast rearward in the track.
Compared to a "normal" stabbed foil.
Thats simple facts and how it is.

A monowing which is stable like the T1, meaning either an S profile, or swept outline with "washout" - meaning tips has a lower AOA than the centre (the two classic ways of making monowings stable), can have its total COL at the same spot as a normal stab foil (which I assume is the purpose from Rudy and Co, so it suits every foilboard out there), or it can be a bit more forward or rearward.

Reading the impressions from riders, it seems the T1 is very lively and fun, but easy to ride.
So I would estimate (but dont know), that the COL is very much the same as for a normal wing, geometrically at least, and on purpose.

So the fact that Rudy like to have it rear, and some like to have the mast forward - just verifies that it might be spot on in terms of trim, and it is simply personally liking whether you want it forward or rearward

In other words, I would not worry about trim, it should not be a problem.

Sorry for commenting on a foil I havent experienced, but I have decades of experience with airplanes, the trim, and how wings and COL changes with different profiles and wing shapes and stab settings or stabless.
And my (working)job, as well as what I love, is to evaluate on perspectives, either measuring directly, or based on indirectly views, or deductive/inductive reasoning based on facts and symptoms.

In short: I wouldnt worry about the mast placement, it will be okay is my take on this :thumb:

I just downsized my board from the 4' 6" (137 cm) Slingshot Dwarfcraft to the new 103 cm Hope Craft.

Started with my mast position all the way towards rear at first and have slowly moved it forward to get the right balance.
