2 days of hard core downwind wipe outs with head first neck twisting wipe-outs then I developed sudden dizziness falling and instability. Ambulance took me to ER. Thought I was stroking out!
Anybody else had a similar experience. Frightening
Treatment was simple with positional exercises and I was back to normal after 24 hours.
I think I'll slow down. Helmut or no helmut.

Yes, high speed wipeout on a hydrofoil can be very bad, I am now happy crusing on slower low AR foils. No need for high speed at my age.

A helmet with earguards (Mystic Predator) was vital when learning & I am sure I would have had ear damage without it. When I was doing daily learning sessions, after the first day I had heavily bruised quad muscles & bought some North ION Crash shorts, which were perfect (worn under shorts...so not to look like a total noob ).

i have had real hard wipeouts wakeboarding and ended up shopping later on - then suddenly i could not stand up straight and started seeing kind of double and vision twisting around hard out, then pretty much couldnt stand up. I was wearing a helmet. I sat down all freaked out for about an hour and it started to go away - it was pretty much a concussion but i do remember my eyes being really all out of control!! Interesting article. All good now,, errr i think ... lol

I have woken up with BPPV just from sleeping in the wrong postion. After a google search I found some simple movement exercise positions that worked amazingly well at curing it. Big credit to the internet for providing very helpful information.

As for heavy crashes from a foilboard, mostly I get whiplash. But as I get more experienced it happens a lot less often. An impact vest really helps and a helmet perhaps too.

One thing to try is: when you realize you have lost control on you foilboard and are going to crash hard, sheet your bar in which will rip you upward (without your board) into a slower high jump. You may end up a lot farther from your board, but you wont be hurt as much.
