Yes, but if an "inverted" asymmetrical foil operates at a sufficient angle of attack to produce positive lift, then it will produce excessive drag; very poor L/D ratio. It's not designed to normally operate that way.
Good point! I can see how this could be a more efficient foil overall.
Im interested if anyone has measured angle of attack while riding. Maybe someone could mount a digital inclonometer/level to their board in a dry bag, calibrate the level on land, then ride around with a gopro filming it?

Hi,
This Gong foil looks really interesting. Hope they will bring it to the market soon. If the price is for real, they will sell them like crazy.
Please, let us know whenever you get any fresh news from them.
Greetings,
Jaros

Bump
I second Jaros questions.
Seems like the foil connection with the board is via a standard 4 screws plate? That would be great, so one could easily couple it with any board.

Ooops, just read on the first page:
Mounting the GONG foil includes:
- A deep tuttle on top of the mast. A windsurf standard, it's a box that we all know, simple to mount and fix if necessary. It also makes our foil usable on a windsurf board.
Is a deep tuttle box really so easy to mount? Is there any minimum board thickness required so it won't screw up structural integrity?

Good luck with that, Gong!

Nick, it is actually not necessarily easier IMO, to make a plate mount modification on an existing board (remember, most boards are with a soft core and pretty fragile), than a tuttle or other system.
You need a lot of reinforcement in all cases
They will all require a lot of good work and craftsmanship.
Just saying....

Fair enough Peter, but for a high density core/ wood sandwich type of construction, used on many kite-specific directionals, wouldn't 4 professionaly installed inserts do the job?
And to install a deep tuttle box on a board with less than 7cm of thickness would require not only good work and craftmanship, but a bit of magic too

nick I really don't know any production boards with high density core/wood directional out there on the market, Who makes one?
the one ones that I know of are the custom guys right now that do corecell or something equal to it for a plate/ box mount.
Firewire only does wood rails and that is about the only one I know of with wood in a production kite surfboard
If you are going to put a foil on a production directional you have to get a block of corecell or something in it so it will hold up.
In a 5cm board you can get a ketos box into it and still have a few mm , a 6cm board you have a lot of room. and then if you do two long board fin boxes you have both set ups if you have or want two type of mounting for a foil..
