Race Foil Progress

Postby davesails7 » Fri Mar 06, 2015 6:47 pm

I was wondering if anyone has a good feel for whether the recently released sword2 and spotz 2 are that much faster than the originals. I know there are other race foils too, but hard to argue that so far, the sword and spotz have dominated in the big races.

In the courseboards, for the first few years the equipment was obsolete after one year, but I think that is not the case anymore. Is that how it is with foils now? Obviously skill plays a huge part, but if you show up to a race with a spotz1 are you going to get blown away by an equal rider on a spotz2?

Not too sure about Sword2 being faster, not enough feedback online as yet. We will find out this coming gold cup. I would say from what I have seen Spotz 2 is faster than Spotz1.

There will be a few more newer companies and designs to watch out for this coming year as well. Competition between builders will be interesting. Of course rider skill and experience pays a large part in race results.

I cant wait to see first round results during Gold Cup Mexico.

My Spotz2 is noticably faster than my Spotz1. The Spotz2 is perhaps perceived as the fastest foil available but this status is only as good as the last major race result. The upcoming Gold Cup will be most interesting.

Before the competition even starts it will be interesting to see what the top riders are choosing to use.. Will Johnny still be on Sword? And there are some new fast foils out there. My friend ColinE is on a new F4 foil. He doesn't have to win the whole event but if he goes fastest in some of the race legs it will certainly be noticed. This event is a chance for some small foil companies to shine.

It will be fun. I'll be there (but I'm not a serious contender).

Jordans updated Listerfoil is still pointing higher than anyone else with good speed.. He will hopefully have a few good results at Gold Cup this year..

Does the Listerfoil still have a wand? If so will someone protest under RRS 52 which seems to ban wands? The Moth class deletes this rule.
"52 MANUAL POWER
A boat’s standing rigging, running rigging, spars and movable hull
appendages shall be adjusted and operated only by the power
provided by the crew. "

I don't think this was deleted from the IKA class rules.
