You can prevent injuries even if you fall with BOTH feet connected to the board. You won't rotate, the board will stay a comfortable distance away from you.

I guess you have not yet ran aground or hit an object in the water at speed. You will definitely fly forward with the kite in the direction you were going, and the submerged foil will definitely resist you from doing so. Sometimes you will be rotated. It depends on where the kite is in relation to your point of sail. I hope both your feet always come out easily and simultaneously

True but ankles and knees are typically very weak in twisting (torque).

I would never. Snowboard bindings were not designed to release your foot and there is no hydrofoil under the board.

Funny though that this is the first thing they teach you in a lesson as it is a required skill for using a chairlift


Single front strap will always have risk, but for learning I still recommend it over 2 if you refuse strapless or dont have a foot hook.

Everyone I have ever seen on their first try with foil + straps looked like this. It still amazes me that people routinely learn this way. I wish someone was around to show me a video like this before i started. Fortunately I quickly realized I would learn much more safely strapless

Are you saying that 3 well known brands (and probably ones I know not of) that have about 15 years+ of experience between them change thier advise because of your thoughts?
Sorry to be rude, but if this saves even one injury then it is worth my time.

to me your your recommendation for strapless or cut off foot hooks make total sense for the safest options. I picked up a set of predator hooks a while back and am thinking that cutting them down for learning is the way to go. Do you or anyone out there have any experience using the predators and cutting them down. If so any pictures and experience would be appreciated.

I can be of no help as I did not even know about predadors until seeing them here.
Hopefully someone will chime in.
For me I used uncut NSI klingon front only for years, but half cut even better as you need so little horizontal overhang to get your toes under for H20 start and good front foot board placement.
It does look like one can cut a predator but maybe need to reinforce the top with something to make it stiffer?
