from what I've read they do have a stinger that can get you but it's at the base of the tail. Luckily I didn't get stung.
I was hitting them constantly, but mostly just glancing off of them. Only twice in the 20 minutes did it knock me off the board. I hit them more often going upwind with the foil up on an angle.
Going back out there today if the wind fills in. I hope they have moved on
