Thanks guys for participating

Can anyone weight the Storms and Clouds in different sizes so we can compare the weight for travel?

This are awesome travel kites btw.

I was lucky to have a quick go on a Cloud whilst on holiday in maui it was the 14.5m. I was impressed with how quick and lively it felt for a kite of that size and I felt nicely powered on my surfboard but I could barely seem to go upwind.

I was trying to feather the bar just enough so that it didn't flap but the kite came forward a little and still maintained enough power to drive me upwind. The board I was on was a good light wind board and it usually rockets upwind.

I am not a beginner and am pretty confident in my upwind ability. The kite is very different to what I have used before and i understand it takes a bit of getting used to. I was just wondering if anyone else has had any similar issues or insight into why this was happening.

Only used the cloud twice on a surfboard a couple months ago and been using it exclusively on a foil since then so its hard to relate.

I had the exact same experience seabizzle. Tried out a 17m cloud c1 on my Slingshot SP . It was tough to go upwind even though I had been staying upwind on 14m rebel. I had been letting the bar out in gusts to push it forward in the window but it would actually drift back in the window. Maybe just takes some retraining.

Also noted riding alongside my buddy that the 14m rebel and 17m cloud looked to have the same projected area.

Shouldn't be a problem staying upwind on a hydrofoil though.

These kites are so fat and hang back so far in the wind, they give the illusion of being powered when in fact all they do is pull you downwind. Terrible kites for foils in my opinion.

Definitely the wrong kite for a foilboard, only a kook would go foiling with a Cloud

(excuse the snarkiness of this comment, I saw the previous reply and had to jump on the bandwagon)

Have been riding for 12 years, ridden maybe 10 different brands, from Cs to the latest bridled kites. This is my first season on clouds, bought a 7, 9 and 12 and am always the guy way upwind of everyone, ride a surfboard. Always deep upwind on the smallest kite. No affiliation with the brand, paid retail. Imho if you have issues staying upwind your kiting skills are more limited than you recognize.
