Learning on a 2015 Moses Vorace

Postby doofus » Sun Dec 06, 2015 11:56 pm

Hi all,

A friend is looking into getting a foilboard. He's wondering if a 2015 Moses Vorace on an Arriba board will be painful to learn on. It has much smaller and higher aspect foils.

He's watched me learn on an older Moses with a freestyle wing, and watched another guy learn on a Liquid Force. He want to know how much harder it will be.

We know it will have a higher take off speed.

He's a heavy guy but a good experienced kiter, waves big air. He's just not as young as he used to be...

I'm happy enough to let him take his first steps on mine..

Many thanks,
Craig

I have tried the Moses with a small wing. It certainly takes more speed to get foiling. I am not sure if this is bad for learning since most of us agree that a beginner should stay down on the water and not foil at first. Perhaps a small wing makes it easier at that stage.

Then the beginner starts getting the foil lifting him. I really don't know if the higher speed required makes things more difficult. Sometimes I think that a big slow wing (like the Liquid Force) makes things more difficult because it lifts the beginner out of the water too early.

Tell us how it goes.

I learned on a Sword 2...once you start foiling it will take some time to learn to control speed, but otherwise it's all hard, might as well just invest in the gear you want and learn how to use it instead of buying multiple steps of progression equipment.

I think he's going to buy it. Then there'll be 3 foilers in a town of less than 20 kiters! Yay! We'll play swaps until he gets it.
