As to the freestyle crossover for WS foiling. There is a lot of lateral sliding and tail first nose landings with pivot outs in WS freestyle.... There is no breaking out the tail like that in foiling. They will be doing loops off flat water, but thats it.
Started already.

They held a fun race at the 2016Defi Wind - due to light wind.

Antoine Albeau finished 6th using an F4 windfoil.

After getting chucked out of the Olympics, Neil Pryde have decided to go for a much stronger selling format for the Olympics RSX windsurf class.

They are aiming to be fully switched to a downwind slalom format for the 2024 Olympics, with a feeder race class called RS:X One for a slightly detuned equipment based category (starting next year).

Downwind Slalom is very successful and will be the most hardcore sailing they have ever seen at the Olympics - if the current No Rules, rules are used. This is how the No Rules, rules came about.

For the one board, one sail Olympic category, the board will be used with a foil from 5 knots of wind to 14 knots..

and with a windsurf fin above 14 knots.

Its looking like it will work well - so far.

A windfoil has won a race against windsurf boards. The rider would probably have won on a windsurf board too, but it shows that the performance is comparable.

Nice windfoil video - 'move like shark'.

:thumb: Biggest Respect to Bastien. I think a Windfoil frontloop is much harder and more risky than anything you can do with a Kitefoil. Excited to see what the Windfoilers will show next.

P.S. Also nice: The Horue speedloop tutorial for everybody to learn at home

I totally agree that front loop is awesome.

Still its funny to see foils on WS. I hope they run with it and loads of people get to enjoy the feeling but it just seems so obvious that foils just suit kiting so much more. The whole ability to create apparent wind, The dexterity of kites in general, the minimal potential of the boards and the simple balance of rider over foil with the ability to work the angle of the foil against the pull of the kite are all such a great fit.

The kite and foil are an even better match when the foil is a pulling foil - but that is somewhere in the future.

The plus for windfoil is that if the wind drops too low to foil, you just sail home anyway.

IDK if a pulling foil has any of the ride qualities integral to the addiction.
